Claude Code adds model-switch hooks, spend visibility and safer sandbox output

Claude Code 2.1.251 introduces PreModelSwitch and PostModelSwitch hooks that can block, confirm or annotate model changes, exposes gateway spend limits in /usage and the status line, streams foreground subagent activity to Remote Control clients, and hardens how sandboxed Bash output files are handled.

Why it mattersCoding-agent governance increasingly depends on events around the model, budget and execution boundary—not only tool permissions. These hooks let platform teams enforce policy or capture audit context when an agent changes models, while spend visibility makes gateway limits visible inside the developer workflow.

PaperCut publishes a second emergency patch and names two exploited-path vulnerabilities

PaperCut expanded its emergency response with Release 2 for NG and MF versions 24–26, adding further hardening and disclosing CVE-2026-82078, a critical unsafe dynamic class-loading issue, and CVE-2026-81578, a high-severity authentication bypass. The vendor recommends Release 2 even for systems that received the first patch.

Why it mattersThis materially changes the earlier advisory: administrators now have a broader replacement patch, named vulnerabilities and clearer investigation guidance. Internet-facing servers should remain restricted, every primary and secondary server should be updated, and operators should investigate rather than treat patching alone as proof of safety.

ChatGPT workspaces can import and automatically sync plugin marketplaces from GitHub

ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu admins can import plugin marketplaces from public or private GitHub repositories and keep them current through automatic daily synchronization. Workspace installation policy, app access, authentication and permission requirements continue to take precedence over repository settings.

Why it mattersReusable agent capabilities now have an enterprise distribution path resembling an internal package catalog. Teams can centrally publish skills and integrations without weakening workspace controls, but marketplace ownership, review and versioning become part of the software supply chain.

ChatGPT can work across multiple Google accounts in one conversation

Supported ChatGPT plans can now connect more than one Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Contacts account, allowing personal and work sources to be queried together across web, desktop and mobile.

Why it mattersCross-account context removes a common boundary in assistant workflows such as scheduling and email search. It also raises the importance of source attribution and deliberate account selection so personal and corporate information are not mixed unintentionally.

Gentoo directs Tor users to 0.4.9.11 after a high-severity vulnerability batch

Gentoo's GLSA 202608-32 covers multiple remotely exploitable Tor vulnerabilities, with the worst potentially allowing remote code execution. The advisory lists releases before 0.4.9.11 as affected and says no workaround is available.

Why it mattersTor frequently sits on sensitive network and privacy boundaries, so a remote-code-execution-class issue warrants rapid package inventory and upgrade. Teams should verify the running binary after deployment rather than assuming repository synchronization completed the remediation.

Debian ships a stable-kernel security update

Debian published DSA-6477-1 for the Linux kernel in the stable distribution, fixing the affected package set in version 6.12.107-1 and recommending that users upgrade their Linux packages.

Why it mattersKernel advisories can affect every workload on a host even when the application stack is fully patched. Infrastructure teams should roll the updated kernel through canaries, confirm reboot requirements and verify that nodes actually return on the fixed version.

Gentoo flags a remotely exploitable Freenet deanonymization flaw

GLSA 202608-33 classifies a Freenet deanonymization vulnerability as high severity and remotely exploitable. Gentoo directs users to upgrade to Freenet 0.7.5_p1505 or later.

Why it mattersFor anonymity systems, identity or topology exposure can defeat the product's core security promise even without conventional code execution. Operators should treat the fixed version as a minimum baseline and reassess what metadata may have been exposed before the upgrade.
