ConnectWise keeps Cloud Backup offline after application-identity breach

ConnectWise said unauthorized access affected application identities tied to Cloud Backup, formerly SkyKick. Its October 19 update kept Cloud Backup, SaaS Security and Cloud Management suspended, leaving scheduled backups, archive access, restores, security monitoring and license administration unavailable. The company said containment remained in place and it had not observed successful activity after mitigation, while the investigation and restoration validation continued.

Why it mattersA vendor disabling its own cloud identities does not remove persistence that may have been created inside customer tenants. MSPs should preserve Entra and Microsoft 365 evidence, keep the seven named applications disabled, review service-principal activity and consent changes, and inspect each managed tenant rather than treating the provider-side shutdown as complete remediation.

Vercel adds session-level traces to AI Gateway

Vercel added a Sessions view to AI Gateway logs that groups multi-turn requests and shows the coding agent or app, models, providers, cost, cache hit rate, timing and routing path for each session. Session affinity is on by default for text and chat requests; developers can supply a sessionId or x-session-id header, while requests without one are grouped by a conversation fingerprint.

Why it mattersAgent observability needs a conversation boundary, not isolated request rows. Session-level traces make provider failover, cache behavior, latency and cost easier to diagnose, but teams should use explicit session identifiers where reliable attribution matters and review how identifiers and prompts appear in operational logs.

Anthropic commits equity to a public-benefit fund

Anthropic said it will place 5% of its shares into a new wholly owned Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, subject to stockholder approval, and may add another 2% for every 50% increase in company value above a baseline. The company said the fund could support nonprofit grants or direct distributions and highlighted labor-market disruption as one possible focus; governance details and valuation milestones are still to come.

Why it mattersFrontier-model economics increasingly shape workforce and public-policy decisions. Engineering leaders should distinguish the confirmed equity commitment from future discretionary additions, and watch for the promised governance, valuation and reporting details before treating the structure as an accountability mechanism.
